The 5th Asia-Oceania Space Weather Alliance (AOSWA) Workshop

The 5th Asia-Oceania Space Weather Alliance (AOSWA-5) workshop was held on 19-21 September 2018 in Bandung, Indonesia (Host: LAPAN, Indonesia, Secretariat: NICT, Japan).

Conducted by NICT, the kick-off meeting of AOSWA was held on December 2010 as an international conference focusing on space weather activities in the Asia-Oceania region. Currently, 29 organizations in 14 countries join AOSWA and keep activities such as joint research and exchange of information related with space weather.
Ninety-nine participants attended the AOSWA-5 from nine countries including Indonesia, Japan, China, Korea and Thailand. Under the theme 'to meet, to connect, and to foster for better living in space', the AOSWA-5 had 32 oral presentations and 10 poster presentations on the research and operation of the space weather in each country. In the special session, the latest information on the space weather-related trends were reported from the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) under the United Nations (UN).
In the business meeting held during the AOSWA-5, a teleconference with the COPUOS members was also conducted. It is expected for Asia-Oceania countries to participate in the UNISPACE+50 and the International Coordination Group for Space Weather(ICGSW).
In the excursion held after the workshop, we visited the Space Weather Monitoring and Information System (SPICA) in LAPAN.
